Singular Covers in Free Lattices

A covering a > b in a lattice is called a singular cover if a is join irreducible and b is meet irreducible. A classification of the singular covers which occur in free lattices is given. AMS (MOS) subject classification (1980). 06B25.

About Free Lattices and Free Modular Lattices

Ralph Freese Department of Mathematics University of Hawaii at Manoa Honolulu, Hawaii 96822 In this paper we look at some of the problems on free lattices and free modular lattices which are of an order theoretic nature. We review some of the known results, give same new results, and present several open problems. Every countable partially ordered set can be order embedded into a countable free...

Almost-free finite covers

Let W be a first-order structure and ρ be an Aut(W )-congruence on W . In this paper we define the almost-free finite covers of W with respect to ρ, and we show how to construct them. These are a generalization of free finite covers. A consequence of a result of [5] is that any finite cover of W with binding groups all equal to a simple non-abelian permutation group is almostfree with respect t...

On X Free Covers

For an arbitrary graph G = (V,E), let X be a graphical property that can be possessed, or satisfied by the subsets of V . For example, being a clique (maximal complete subgraph), a maximal independent set, an edge, a closed neighborhood, a minimal dominating set, etc. Let CX ={A|A ⊆ V , |A| > 1, and A possesses or satisfies property X}. A set S is an X cover (or X free) if A ∩ S (or A ∩ (V − S)...

Free Groups in Lattices

Let G be any locally compact metrizable group. The main result of this paper, roughly stated, is that if F < G is any finitely generated free group and Γ < G any lattice, then up to a small perturbation and passing to a finite index subgroup, F is a subgroup of Γ. If G/Γ is noncompact then we require additional hypotheses that include G = SO(n, 1). MSC: 20E07, 20F65, 20F67, 22D40, 20E05.
